"Alex"

November 8 1995 ----- August 27 1999

Cocker Spaniel

Alex came into my life as an adorable

little puppy on Christmas Day

back in 1995.

From the first day he saw me

he knew that I was his and

there was no other way about it.

I was there for the first time

he discovered his voice.

He couldn't believe that he made that sound,

and once he discovered this

he wouldn't stop. He was so proud of his own voice

and I was so proud of him for being the

individual he was.

I was there for his first flight of stairs.

At the bottom he looked up at

me as if to say

"Did you see me do that?"

And he was proud and of course

I was proud of him.

I was there for his first cat.

At first he couldn't figure it out but then decided

that it was just another friend he could make.

Poor Alex couldn't understand

that there are just some living things

you can't make friends with.

But he looked proud anyway...at least he tried.

I was there for all his firsts and I was proud of him.

Then life threw a curve ball.

I had to take him to live with my parents.

He ended up blossoming into my mom's shadow my dad's sidekick

and my family's

"early warning system".

He would stand guard at night at the top of the stairs

with his "baby" to keep watch as to

who would come to the front door

and let everyone in the house know

that there was someone there.

He would get excited on Sunday

when Dad would wake up because

he knew that he got to go for a walk with his

"Uncle Brandy" my parent's cocker.

My fondest memory of all is when I went home for a visit.

He recognized me right away after all that time of being away from him

he still knew to give me his "high five".

I had come down with a touch of the flu and was

having a nap on the couch

when he came to me

climbed on top of me and fell

asleep with me on my chest.

The first thing I saw when I woke up was him

just waking up too.

He knew I wasn't feeling well and wanted to comfort me.

He died on August 27 1999 from an epileptic attack.

It was a shock to the whole family especially my Mom.

She had said to me that he was her shadow.

Everywhere she was he was.

He followed her everywhere.

She had said that on that day

she felt that her shadow had disappeared

even on the brightest sunniest days.

She now had no shadow.

He's now buried in his backyard

with all his favorite toys especially his "baby"

a poor tattered and torn little tiger.

He lived to love

unconditionally and will be sorely missed

by everyone who got to know him.

I miss you and love you "my little puppers."
