Dog

I was six yrs old when you were given to me .
I carried you through the grocery store
with me that day just as proud as a peacock.
You were my very own little girl.
Even at six yrs old
I knew that we would be best
of friends and we were.
When it would rain we would cuddle up on the porch
and wait for it to stop so we could play
on the wet grass then
we would run and play in the wet grass.
You would slide to a stop on your little legs and lay down
to catch your breath momentarily soon to go again.
You chased me through the house
until we got in trouble by grandma
but we didn't care we would do it again.
I think my favorite part was when it snowed
that because you were so small
that you would get stuck and get so mad
because you couldn't move
so you would bite at the snow trying to get free.
When finished your little black muzzle
was all matted with snow.
You looked like you had pearls hanging
from your little face so pretty.
I'll never forget the day you crossed the bridge.
I called & called but you never came
so I went to look for you.
You were in your favorite place
laying in the driveway in the sun sound asleep.
You had passed away and gone from me
till we can cross the bridge together.
Good bye for now my friend.
Though it has been many years I still miss you very much.
So run and play watch for me at the bridge,
see you soon my friend.
