Dutchess was special. She came to live with Samanatha and me in July 1985 because her owner lost her house and if I didn’t take her she would be killed. I meet her as a pup and she was special so she became my second kid. When I lost Samanatha Duth was my big baby. She would smile at people (but they thought she was mean). We were seldom apart. If I had company she would let me know that she didn’t like them.
One day I took her to the vet 1986 and found out she had never been on heart worm meds so she had it. We went through hell. The old tretment made her so sick but she survived. One day a person stole her but I got her back by police escort. The office said “she’s a dobe”. He was scared but when she got to the front door and saw me she made one leap and was on my lap. The cop couldn’t believe that she was very gentle.
In May of 1987 I just came home after 21 days of chemo in NY. She was my second child. I was married on March 11 1989 and she came to my husband’s home. Then 1 week after a clean bill of health she wasn’t acting right and when I went to check on her she was laying still. That was at 9:30pm. Called my new vet and rushed her in. She was gone. She was yellow. I told Dr. Terry she would be okay and wasn’t. I told her that I had to take her to Ft. Wayne to my house and bury her. The vet said no. You get her on Monday and will be able to drive then.
I did and buried her under a liliac tree I planted for my mom’s memory. She was my baby and she is with me in spirit and with my mom and one day I will be with her and Sam.
