Puddins by Jonathan Susan and Holly

For 12 years Puddins was my best friend. I received her as a gift for Christmas when I was 15 I had been wanting a dog for a long long time. She was an excellent listner and wonderful companion never judging but always there when you needed that special support. She saw me through the good times and the bad; my parents divorce high school and college graduations relationships job changes and finally my marriage among many other memorable moments.

She could always cheer you up when you were sad by bringing you her ball as if saying “play with me and you’ll feel better.” She loved to play ball it didn’t matter how many times you would throw that tennis ball she would continue to bring it back to you. She would have never stopped chasing that ball if she could have.

She loved being the center of attention; full of personality and intelligence. If you weren’t paying attention to her she would climb up next to you on the couch sit upright and look directly at you and start “speaking” to you until you would give her your attention. She also didn’t like closed doors and would often open them if she could. She thought she was
human many times.

She loved food and was given “people” food early on in her life. Once when she was a puppy she climbed on top of the counter-top in our kitchen while we were in the other room and proceeded to nibble on every one of the cookies my mother had just baked. Her favorite food was peanut butter if I didn’t give her any when I was having some I was in for it. She was definitely a begger though she could sit up begging for a long time until she got what she wanted. She was absolutely amazing.

She lost her right eye to glaucoma in 1997. In 1998 she developed glaucoma in her left eye but through laser surgery in North Carolina her vision was 90% saved. Unfortunately a year later she developed a cataract in her left eye and although she underwent cataract surgery and survived her vision was then only about 15% of what it should have been.

The doctors were still amazed at her ability to handle both surgeries in one eye like that. She was very strong willed and got around great even with her handicap still loving to chase that tennis ball although
a little more difficult.

Puddins was very much loved and will be thoroughly missed by not only myself but everyone she touched in her life including our 2 year old labrador retriever Holly. Everyone said she was one of the happiest little dogs they had ever seen always smiling and very friendly. She will always live on in our memories of her never to be forgotten. I’ll miss her companionship very much and the love she brought to my life.

To my best friend Puddins
I love you!
