Ralph by Stephanie Boudreau / Mommy

TO MY BOY

When I first saw you, you had a lipstick kiss on your head.
I held your tiny body in my arms and thanked Mom and Dad so much for you.
Your leash was so long and your collar barely fit.
I laid you on your back and taught you to clap your paws.

You always made me laugh by the silly things you did.
You chased Yummy around the house and
you chased your tail.
In the summer you rolled around in the grass.
In the fall you rolled around in the leaves.
In the winter, you tiptoed through the snow.
And in the spring, you stopped and smelled the flowers.

I think of all the nights you snuck up on the couch
Even after Mom said, “down.”
But I let you stay on it anyway.
I think of the times you heard my car
And came running to the door to greet me.

For a long time, you were my only friend.
You were the best friend I ever had.
You were always there for me and oh so loyal.
You loved me no matter what I wore or what my hair looked like.
You were the best!

And now I think
What should I do for you?
You have done so much for me.
I don’t want to see you hurt.
I love you so much

Letting go is the hardest part.
I don’t want to let you go, my boy
But I know one day
I will see you again
Please remember me
So I can give you a lipstick kiss on your head.

Love,

Mommy

Always in my heart,
Ralph
