MOLLY by Rich & Jerry Haavisto / Daddy and Mommy

We got Molly from a lady who awakened one morning to find a female dog with a litter of 10 puppies on her porch. Molly slept all the way home, then opened her eyes as if to say, “This is going to be fun!”

Molly was a very comforting companion over the years, especially when Mom had to quit working in 1992. When I retired in 2002, she would follow me all around the house, rarely letting me out of her sight. She had to always be in the center of things.

About four months ago she started having extreme difficulty keeping food and water down. We couldn’t stand to see her suffer any longer. I called the vet and made an appointment for euthanasia. Mom and I held her in our arms as the vet administered the solution. She gently drifted off to eternal rest.

Six weeks have passed since that day. Mom and I still hear her, smell her, and see her around the house. But she isn’t there. Baby Molly (our name for her) has gone to the Bridge to wait for us. The water is clear, the grass is lush, and food is plentiful. Chasing butterflies and taking naps in the cool shade are the highlights of every day.

Molly gave us 15 wonderful years. We miss her every hour of every day. The pain is still intense and deep. We know we did the right thing. But, why does the ‘right thing’ have to hurt so much?

Molly, honey, we know you are in a better place. Your pain is gone forever. Please look after Mazy, Sugar, Peanuts, Mitzi, and all the others, okay? Until we meet again…

WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU, AND WE WILL NEVER STOP LOVING YOU
