Zero by Madison Elise Greer / Sissy

I remember it real well. I had always wanted a dog and my day had finaly come, we were heading to a woman who’s dog had just had puppies. I wanted a sister for a while and my Mother said that a dog would be just perfect for me. I wanted a sister and I was geting one. We arived at the woman’s house and she told me that the puppies were down in the basement. I walked down the stairs that lead to the basement. I went alone because I wanted to do this on my own. It was my job to find me a sister or a brother.
As I entered the basement I was surounded by a sea of puppies. I looked around and I locked eyes with a pup that had long balck fur, a white chest, and white front toes. I walked through the sea of puppies and picked up the puppy that had picked me out. To my Grandmother I was just getting myself a birthday present for my third brithday.
I walked up the stairs and showed her to my Mother. “She’s perfect.” My Mother said.
I ran to the car waiting tom go home to play with my new friend. It seamed like it took forever for my parents to start the car.
I lay back on the ride home my new sister curled up beside me. The last words I heard form my Mother was, ” What’s her name?”
“Zero.” was all I managed to say before I fell into sleep.
Two years went by and I started Kindergarden. It was my turn for show and tell so I brought my sister. I told them about her and how I got her, then I called her my sister and they all laughed. Why they laughed at me calling Zero my sister I did not know why, but one boy thought it funny to push me over a chair and make me hit my head on a table. I didn’t cry for that would be showing weekness in their eyes. I stood up weak in the knees, my head was throbing and I thought I was going to pass out. My knees gave out from under me and I fell, but I didn’t hit the floor, Zero had caught me and was lowering me to the floor. I was able to get up after a while, but my mom took me home. When my mom had left the room I hugged Zero and fell asleep my arms twined around her neck.
A few years had passed and I was 8. I had a baby brother who was four now, and was starting preschool. My Great Grandma was in the hospital and my mom and dad were staying at her house. It was a rainny night and In fell asleep. The next morning I got up got dressed and walked over to my mom’s house, (they only lived a block away) I wanted to check on Zero. I came around to the side of the gate and she was gone. I checked inside the house but to no availe she was gone. My one and only friend gone.
So I say to all who read this: hold close your friends of old, for ye may be there one day and gone the next.
I should know this, because I found out the hard way.

With everlasting love,
Zero
