Lincoln by Ron and Tess Reisler / Mom, Dad, Que, Rafa, Do, Lovely Hilda, Bug

To Our Sweet Boy Lincoln,

You came into our lives on the wings of a whirlwind.. You leaped into Tess’s arms and we never let go of you. You stole our hearts because you were you –
and we were better for it.!

We will always remember you,
and never ever forget you!

We’ll remember all of your wonderful traits and the ways that you showed us your love. We’ll remember the cold, wet kisses in the morning, your need to have your back massaged, jumping into bed whenever you wanted to (or whenever one of us got up for a moment). We’ll never forget your way of letting us know that you loved us, jumping between us whenever there was an argument, or insisting that your face had to between us when we exchanged kisses – and of course we both had to kiss and hug you. Donna and Hilda will each miss you for many reason, but especially when you stood between them in order to stop a fight. You’ll always be little Hilda’s great love. Even Lady Bug will miss you. You were the only dog that she didn’t want to bite. Quenia will miss you jumping on her when she came in the door, and Raphael will never swim in his pool without remembering you.

We sometimes called you “Rufus” and “Doofus”, because of the silly things that you did, but always, always with love and pride. You’ll never know how many time we talked about you. Dr Scruton, your regular vet will miss you, and cried when he learned of your accident. Drs. Kleinbart, and Whelan were very sad when you went to sleep and joined God in heaven at Tufts animal hospital.

Lincoln, whenever one of us puts on a pair of socks we’re going to miss the ever soggy feel because we had to pry them out of your mouth first; and Tess will always miss the fact that her underwear no longer has mysterious holes, having been secretly chewed over by you. Anytime she sees a tulip, she’ll remember the day you ate them as she planted them, and then cried with laughter.. Raphael and Quenia will never own a pair of shoes or sandals again when they won’t remember you having eaten one of theirs. People in Brazil know about you because your two-legged grandparents, Hilda and Aristides, have told them about you. There are so many stories involving you that I often thought of writing a book about you. It would be titled, “Life with Lincoln”.

Your name was chosen because it replicated the name of the greatest American. He was a man of immense kindness, compassion, love, understanding, courage and wisdom. In your short time on this earth, you made us proud that you shared this great man’s name. The tears flow from my eyes as this memorial is being written, with a heavy heart, much love, and a prayer that we’ll meet you again – and that you’ll have to endure a lot of kisses and hugs.

Go with God sweet boy!

With all our Love,
Lincoln
