When we found you at the Humane Society, you were just a little fella–only 8 weeks old and the runt of the litter. We fell in love with you right then and there and brought you home to be a part of our family. We named you Pepper because you were black all over with just a touch of white on your chest. You were just a “mutt”, a Dachshund mix of some kind; some people said you looked like a miniature lab. It didn’t matter to us what you were-a purebred of the highest ranking, or a shelter dog of unknown heritage-
we loved you like a king.
Fourteen years of joy and happiness you gave us-always happy to see us, always sharing in all of our family events, whether it be playing in the snow with the girls or greeting everyone at their graduation parties. You protected your girls (you must have thought you were their big brother) and waited patiently by the door for them to come home.
As the only other male in the family, you followed Dad around the yard–even though he didn’t particularly care for you, at first. You tolerated the addition of two new siblings, a Jack Russell Terrier named Minnie and a cat named Kitty, allowing them to eat from your dish and play with your toys.
You gave us unconditional love and never asked for anything in return other than a little food and water. You were always there when the girls needed a shoulder to cry on, patiently listening as they poured their hearts out to you, know you would never tell their secrets.
You’ve been a part of every birthday, graduation, holiday and family celebrations over the years, always greeting everyone with a wag and a grin. You loved everyone and everyone loved you in return. So much more then a pet, you were a companion, a friend, a member of the family and we will always love you.
You're gone now, Pepper, but not forgotten. We will always cherish your memory.
