Our sweet boy, Mittens, is now at the Rainbow Bridge with his sisters Penny, Daisy, and Molly. His special friend, Goldie, a Golden Retreiver, is also there with him. Goldie helped to raise him and was very patient
with all his kitten antics!
Mittens was born in Sun Valley, Idaho. He was chosen by Esti, his first adoptive mommy. He had a very memorable harrowing experience there with a Great Horned Owl. The owl flew off a rooftop and swooped down toward Mittens! Luckily, Mittens was able to react and the owl broke off his swoop. We know for a fact that Mittens used up at least one of his nine lives then!
When Mittens was six, he began a new life in Florida via a cross-country airline flight. He lived with his Grandma for a short time. He then was taken in by his second adoptive mommy, Susan, who is an ardent cat lover. Life became very different for Mittens. He became an inside cat and immediately was a brother to Penny, Daisy, and Molly. It was here that Mittens lived out the rest of his long and happy life.
Mittens just loved catnip! Being the clever boy that he was, he learned how to open the cabinet where the catnip is kept. He then would pull out the bag, spill some of it on the floor, and begin to roll around in it! He also knew how to open the refrigerator door and Dad had to put velcro on the door to keep Mittens out!
In one very nasty altercation with his cat sister, Molly, Mittens lost the top portion of his beautiful orange tail. Mittens and Molly had gotten into a disagreement that resulted in a wild chase through the house. Upon entering the bedroom, Molly hit the door, causing the door to close forcefully on Mitten’s tail. A late night trip to the emergency vet resulted in surgery that reqired a little bit more of his tail to be removed. None the worse for the wear, Mittens was sent home and had a rapid and successful recovery.
His favorite past time was to lay on the table on the back porch and emjoy the warm Florida sunshine. He did not like thunderstorms at all and would want to come in immediately!
As he began to be a “senior statesman,” he started to slow down, but still enjoyed life and filled our lives with his presence and affection. As he began to get noticeably thin, visits to the vet became more frequent. We then began to realize that the end for him was coming soon and that was hard to accept. When we finally made the decision that is so difficult to make, we did have the consolation that we had given him the best life he could have and did everything that we could do medically to support him. Even with that, it was hard because he was such a bright spot in our lives and we feel that his spirit is still with us.
Mittens Boy, we see you young and healthy again at the Rainbow Bridge. You are at peace and we will see you again. Love you and miss you lots.
With Much Love,
| Mittens |
