Geordie by Shelly Wolf-Lake / Mommy

Dear Geordie,

Another birthday spent without you — you would have been 18 on Aug.1! (Of course, I knew you wouldn’t likely still be with us, but I had been hoping you’d make 16) You had done so well until your 12th year, and then mommy missed getting you checked out when I saw signs that you might not be well. I still regret not taking you to a vet right away: just assumed that because the problem seemed to go away, you were all right. You were far from alright, and I wish I had spared you all the pain you went through. I also wish I had been there for you more, rather than less, and I will always regret that too. I hope I will see you again, and we can have one huge birthday celebration to make up for all the ones we missed! And I will beg your forgiveness and try to make it all up to you. I still miss you every day (not just on our special days), and no one will ever take your place in my heart!!

Love you and miss you always,
Geordie
