We thought we were going to change our lives by buying a home, saw a sign for “Great Dane Puppies” and life changed in a different way – we found you!
We weren’t in the hunt for a pup at the time, but couldn’t resist once we saw you and your brothers and sisters. We instantly fell in love with your adorable little face – half white and half grey/black with blue marbles for eyes. We tried to show you to your sister who wasn’t all that impressed . . .
at first.
We were drawn to you as you were to us. We knew we were meant to be your family for the rest of your life. I’m so glad we were the ones who would get to give you the best life ever, even if it was a short one.
We want you to know that your bio mom didn’t want you to go – she was scratching at the door to keep you to herself. We remember your dad too. He was laying across the WHOLE couch looking very regal and gentle. You looked just like him when you got bigger.
He was a handsome man just like you.
So off we went in the car to start our life together. You weren’t a natural “car rider” at first – threw up on my twice before we got home! I figured that was your way of marking your territory. I didn’t mind at all.
For the next few months, it was training, training, training. I watched all kinds of shows and read books to make sure you would be a gentle giant and would listen to me well. Waking up 5 times a night at first to make sure you got to go potty was tough, but worth it. When you got older, you could pee a lake! You started out about the size of your sister Bianca, but soon, she could walk under you.
You always tried to play nice with her – it’s like you knew how big and strong you were. You’d always be able to win in tug of war, but would always give her another shot. The doggy daycare guys would say the same thing when I asked if you played nice “ya . . . he knows how big he is.” You were such a good boy.
Everyone that met you fell in love with you. It was also obvious to everyone how much we loved you and how much you meant to us. Even though you were so big, it was fun to take you places in the car. After a while, you had the “get in” routine down. Most dogs jumped in – you walked in!
You were a crazy boy sometimes – tearing up the lawn, shedding on the couch and eating ANYTHING we left out! But, as mom said, we would trade all of that and more to have you here still.
It was always in the back of my mind that one day I would lose you but I always hoped that you would grow old with me and that I could look after you in your older years. This was not meant to be and you were suddenly taken from everyone that loved you the day before your 9 month birthday on Halloween.
The pain of missing you is so intense, I don’t know if I’ll ever get over losing my little buddy. All your family misses you dearly including your mom and sister. There is not a day that goes by that we don’t think about you – after all you are a HUGE presence both in personality and size. To not be able to protect you and make you comfortable in the end breaks my heart. I can’t wait to see you again so I can give you a big hug and feel the weight of your head and get a gigantic kiss on my cheek again.
You will always be our best boy,
| Amen |
