Alexandra “Lexie””” by John & Bekye Eckert / Your loving “Team Lexie”””

455 days ago, our Lexie was diagnosed with cancer. The horrible disease weakened her beautiful body but did not diminish her bright spirit and happy disposition. She became an ambassador for canine cancer awareness, featured on ABC and Fox News for her participation in the 2Dogs2000 Miles Canine Cancer Caucus in Washington DC. Much to our dismay, she faced the cameras with goose poop in her beard! She was the February 2010 “Cancer Can’t Get a Good Dog Down” calendar model, she won the Westminster MD Petsmart’s costume contest dressed as herself (a breast cancer survivor), and she was the inspiration for the top team (“Team Lexie”) in the American Cancer Society’s BARK FOR LIFE Walk in Ocean Pines MD.

Originally expected to survive up to six months, Lexie blessed us with the gift of her presence for fifteen. Today the disease finally won … it took her life and her lovely presence from our lives. But it cannot destroy the beautiful soul she is or the precious memories of her all too fleeting time in our arms.

What Cancer Cannot Do

Cancer is so limited…
It cannot cripple Love
It cannot shatter Hope
It cannot corrode Faith
It cannot kill Friendship
It cannot suppress Memories
It cannot silence Courage
It cannot invade the Soul
It cannot steal eternal Life
It cannot conquer the Spirit
