Tribute to Anni
It was love at first sight
That first day in the pet store,
it was love at first sight.
We didn’t choose Anni, she chose us; running out from the litter with an expression of ‘pick me, pick me’. We did.
From that day on, Anni was in charge.
Her special traits of playing with her toys, endless enthusiasm, that special tail wag for humans and that special vocabulary of barks & whoofs, she could communicate with us clearer than some humans could.
Anni was not spoiled, she was simply accustomed to having her own way. Taking herself off to bed if we stayed up too late. That stubborn streak when she wanted to walk in a different direction that she chose or not go back home just yet, her face said it all – no misunderstanding, and she won most of the time.
But she was not selfish:
Lying at my feet standing guard
when I ate my meals,
Chasing off the birds
when we went to the back yard,
Guarding the hallway & office door
when we worked in the office,
In & out of the back door as many times
as we went in & out,
Bringing toys to play with to make sure
we played with her,
Sitting on the couch with us
when things were quiet,
Anni shared with us all of the time.
Most importantly she shared her love.
That happy face and kisses first thing
in the morning,
Wagging the tail so hard her
whole body moved when we came
home from work,
Continuing to show that love even
in those final days when she was
so sick & weak.
Anni touched so many people and
other dogs in her time with us.
She had more dog friends than most people I know and commanded the respect of so many humans, most of which started asking about her as soon as she fell ill.
So many people showed respect and affection for her as soon as she passed on. This proves
her love was not wasted.
To the kindest, warmest and sweetest dog to walk the face of this earth, you will live in our hearts forever for you have made such an impact and improvement in our lives.
Missed but never forgotten.
