Bravo
A clownish boy you were
of your breed
we’re still not sure.
Black and white all mixed up
what a unique little pup.
Eyes of deep soulful brown
around you who could frown?
Ears of silk pink belly to rub
you loved to “go in the tub”.
I will never forget
your smiling face
as you ran free
in your own private race.
Such joy many humans
have never found
to be free to just be around.
Special you always made me feel
greeting me with
your white tipped tail.
Your kisses they were grand
though tickling my ear
I could not stand.
You reminded me to enjoy
the simple things
like the fun a chewed up
old toy brings.
To lay on your back
feel the warmth of the sun.
with a friend you love
together as one.
Though your heart
of gold was true
those memories of abuse
never left you.
You came to us too late
those that bred and raised
you had sealed your fate.
Though our hearts break
as your life we take.
Please forgive us we pray
Until we meet again some day.
Dear Bravo forever in my heart
the tears now start.
I will miss you
I will it’s true.
but I wouldn’t trade my pain
for having never met you.
Until we meet again
you go own run in the fields
be free…
just make sure to come
back to me.
Bravo was a dog whom I met at a local shelter. Though he loved people he was not an “easy dog” to handle. So that his death not be in vain I beg of all of you: Please do not breed your dogs without seriously asking yourself the reasons why you want to breed your dog in the first place. I am sure whomever bred Bravo’s parents did not put two cents of thought into the life the puppies would lead. I wonder where his littermates ended up.
To make matters worse he went to someone who isolated him and never properly trained him in proper canine etiquette. So we those who do rescue have yet another set of eyes to look into another set of ears to explain to another heart to feel stop beating in our hands we are the ones that have to pay for your “mistakes”. To all those whom do rescue thank you. To the kind people that tried to save Bravo your kindness was extraordinary and will not be forgotten.
He loved all of you too!
