This is my story
I’ll tell it my way
My soul crossed over
The Bridge today.

My little life ended
Far too soon
I went to Heaven
On a Friday afternoon.

I wandered away
From my loving home
A little scared
I felt lost and alone.

Then I wandered
On to the school grounds
Found sweet laughing children
My joy knew no bounds.

Meow! Meow!
Did I do something wrong?
To be poked and kicked?
I just wanted to belong!

I was hurt
And I cried
In pain ran away
Thought to myself
“Tomorrow’s another day”

I went back next day
To sniff the flowers
That aways smell good
After the showers.

It wasn’t a child
That did me in
It was a very big person
With a wicked grin.

Before I knew it
My short life was over
I woke at Heaven’s gate
In a field of clover

The Bridgekids all met me
Wait! Who do I see?
The King they call Bogus
I’m purring with glee!

I have to go back
For a little while
To visit one special boy
On his face see a smile

With my Protecter beside me
I know I am safe
No longer a sad
Or frightened waif.

Together we jumped
And sat down on his bed
I purred to him softly
“I’m not really dead
I know you cared
And did your best
To see me off
To my eternal rest”.

“I love you
And thank you
But now I must go
Back to the Bridge
You’ll be a good boy I know”

“When your time comes
At Rainbow Bridge
I will wait
Just one step across
To Heaven’s Gate”.
