My Family got Cookie Cola and Precious exactly one Day apart. From the very begining we were all best of friends. Precious had been adopted from a family whos house had burned down. She had a traumatic experience because all of her pups were lost in the fire. She was found hiding in a box afterwards. Cookie was a lost little soul that we found at the SPCA.
When I first saw her face I knew she was the one. They would comfort me everyday. When I was sad they knew. When I was sick they would always know. They were so understanding and caring. We were Best friends and they were best friends You never saw Cookie without Precious or vice versa. They were like Cat-dog hooked at the hip!! In september of 2000 I noticed that Cookie was slacking and looked like she was sick. I took her to the vet thinking
she had a bug. I was wrong.
Both of my dogs kidneys had failed and her level of toxins in her body was enormous. The vet did all she could but she told us that there was no use. We should prepare for her death. I asked her how do I prepare for the death of the best friend I have ever known….she could not respond. I decided to take Cookie home in
a hospice kind of situation.
We gave her pain injections and we treated her like a queen. She was living it up. Cookie always slept with me at the left foot of my bed….no where else in the whole house was she comfy. When we brought her home she limped in to my room and slept on her side of the bed. I stayed up all night that night to make sure she wouldnt’t die all alone.
The next day I looked in her eyes and I saw a great amount of love in her eyes but I also saw the pain she was enduring. I made the decision to put her down. I took her to the vet and they laid her on a comfy little table. As the vet injected the poison she licked my hand. I knew she was at peace. When I brought her home Precious was devastated. She could not handle it.
In December of the same year Precious went in to the back yard through her door and started digging a hole. She left our yard and was looking for probably her best friend. My mom found her the next morning. She was hit by a car. I miss the way the way they both used to play with me and help me get through the tough times.
I miss how they would make a plan to steal the scrunci out of my hair. We had them for the better part of 6 years. It may seem short but they helped me grow and live a better life. I will always miss them and I hope they are living a
grand life in dog heaven.
They are buried next to each other in the back yard. I go out there whenever I can just to remember. Their love is like the wind,,,,I can’t feel it
but I can certainly feel it.
I love you.
You are my heroes.
