Dexter, or the Prince, as we called him, was the perfect cat. Countless non-“cat people” remarked over the years that he was the _only_ cat they liked. We joked that he was the defender of the feline species.
He was a huge (though not fat) cat, prompting us to say he was the “missing link,” presumably between housecat and mountain lion. He was unbelievably handsome, gray and white with a big brown nose, and with a deep meow and a loud, rumbling purr.
We will miss him greeting us in the driveway by rolling around over and over.
He died in his garden
in his favorite weather, sunny and warm.
Still, none of us are ready to let you go, Dex.
Dekky-ru, we miss you.
You will always be our prince.
We'll never forget you,
