Didgie by Jacki

You brought so much joy to me in the few months that we had together. When I saw your picture on the internet there was something so very different in the way you looked out at the world. It set you apart from all the hundreds of shelter dogs whose pictures make their way to my computer every day and I knew above all that I could not let you die in the gas chamber.

All the phone calls all the work all the waiting for the vet to give you “travelling papers” for the right “window” of weather so you could fly out of Atlanta and not be too hot and land in Montana and not be too cold…then they unloaded that huge crate and out you tottered so thin so scared so dirty. Everything we gave you made you so very happy…

I remember the day you finally decided you could play with the doggie toys and laid them out in a semi-circle around you! Watching you run and play as you gained strength wrestling and chasing my other dogs gave me a sense of joy that I will never forget. I will never know what went wrong that afternoon…a fight over a toy??? I will never forget the horror of what I saw and not a day goes by that I fail to shed a tear about you but I do know that if I had to do it all again knowing how things would end up I would still bring you home rather than let the shelter
end your life.

I love you Didgie dear and will never forget your happy gentle nature and your complete joy in all that you were given.

You will hold a place
in my heart forever.
