Fudge by Anne-Marie & Trevor / Mummy & Daddy

Our Fudgey was one in a million. We called him Fudge as he was a beautiful beige colour and people would stare at him as he was so gorgeous. I’m convinced this little cat was a human with four legs. He would talk to us in his special way. He understood our moods and we in turn understood his.

He would desperately try to protect his territory and I believe us as well, from neighbourhood cats but would accept other cats we brought into the household with no trouble as if to say ” if mum and dad chose them they must be ok “. Whenever we went on holiday my mum would have to come over to look after the cats but it was primarily Fudge who she really came to see as she loved him also. It would have broken Fudges heart to be put in a cattery.

Fudgey was only 7.5 when he developed oral cancer. Looking back, there were subtle signs that all was not well but we ( and I say this in anger ) were too ignorant to realize that it was leading to something more serious. We thought that the slight jaw judders when he yawned were that he was now approaching senior years and that he looked thinner was due to the fact that he was moulting now the days were warmer. Poor Fudge had always ate strangely even when he was a baby, he threw his head back to get his food down. Was there something lying dormant even then? We’ll never know.

My Fudge was the bravest cat, he went through operations and medications and still loved to please us. He would show off so much when we laughed at his antics. When it came to the end even then his little body fought to stay. The vet had to give him two overdoses of anesthetic to finally stop his little heart beating. I still can’t believe he’s lying in a cold wet hole at the top of my garden.

I visit his grave and talk to him, I ask him to forgive us for any pain or suffering that he endured. We loved him so much.
I pray that he is having the best time ever at Rainbow bridge and that we will be together again one day.

Forever in our hearts,
Fudge
