Misty by Carol

Misty died peacefully in her favorite spot at home on Sunday. She was a purebred American Eskimo Spitz (with papers to prove it) and was very gentle and affectionate for her breed. She was born on July 1 1985 in Wayland Iowa. She came to Connecticut as a puppy and lived a proverbial “dog’s life” with us for 16 years.

She was an intelligent dog but was never properly trained. As a puppy she learned to run away whenever anyone called her name and consequently spent alot of time on a leash. She always enjoyed the outdoors and in her youth she especially liked digging holes and lying in them. She also derived great pleasure from rolling in anything emitting a foul odor. She required professional grooming a couple of times a year to restore her white fur to its arctic fox appearance.

Fortunately she out grew the digging and rolling business and as she grew older she could eventually be let out unfettered; in fact she would rarely leave the yard and instead or running away she would follow us everywhere. In her last years she spent more and more time indoors but still liked to go out and then bark to come in and then go out and then come in and then go out and then… you get the picture.

She had a hearty appetite right up until the end particularly for cat food and table scraps which she always preferred to doggie fare. Besides her human family Misty leaves her companion Pat (the cat) several canine cousins- Sal Tasha Major Murphy Shasta and Holly- and her friends from next door Missy and Max.

Since the ground is frozen and she can’t be buried in the yard the Animal Hospital is taking care of her cremation. In memory of Misty pat your dog on the head rub its sides give it a treat and tell it “Good Dog!”
