Oscar”
“Oscar” the Grouch
5/1998 – 7/5/2001
“Oscar the Grouch” was his name when we first took him in when he was 6 or 7 months old. My mother got him from a friend of hers because Oscar was very mean to other cats. Oscar had already put a few cats in the hospital and nearly tore the ear from another cat. My mother took him even though she is allergic to cats to save him from being put to sleep.
The first night my mother had Oscar he ran up and down the hallway all night finally jumping onto her bed climbing the curtain at the head of her bed and doing a back flip landing on her chest and sprayed her right in the face while she slept. the next morning my mother called me and said “If you don’t come get him I am going to kill him.” then went on to explain what all he did.
Oscar was a black and gray Tabby. We took Oscar to the vet and had him de-sexed and de-clawed to calm him down and take the wild out of him. He always had an attitude. He would ignore you for a couple days going to a different room of the house than you were in for merely speaking of having him de-sexed. So he was mad for a while when the event actually happened. We moved to another state and of course Oscar moved with us. never failed when we went out when we got back home he would let us know he would get on the half-wall by the door and rattle the chain with his paw. As soon as the door was open a crack he would stick his head out and meow. And making Tuna Sandwiches in our home was a challenge!
We would have had him 3 years November 2001 but we got this really big hair-brained idea to take him to the vet and get Oscar his vaccinations. We couldn’t afford to have all of them given to him so we only had the Dr. give him his Rabies Distemper and Leukemia shots. We took him home under the influences that he was acting normal. By the next afternoon we noticed that Oscar had started vomitting and having bowel movements that were blood filled. I raced him back to the vet after calling there. They immediately took Oscar and put him on antibiotic IV and pain meds. The first night he was under supervision the second we wasn’t because he had mustered the strength to walk a short distance in his cage. When the vet came in that morning she found our beloved Oscar had passed on.
Oscar lived a short 3 years here on Earth and has finally crossed “The Rainbow Bridge” to prowl amongst and within Heavens Gates.
His memory will live on in our hearts.
He left quite a few paw prints there.
