Peanut wasn’t a usual ferret by any means. Everything he did was in grand style and with a good dose of drama thrown in. For the two years we had him after adopting him from a ferret rescue shelter, he suffered many bouts of debilitating and often inexplicable illness. And he never got sick on a human schedule, only after hours and on weekends when he would invariably end up rushed to the emergency clinic. But we had to laugh at his ferret’s sense of timing. Taking care of him definitely bonded us in ways that are hard to put into words.
It draws you so much closer to your pet companion whether you want it to or not. Peanut also had a brother who was adopted from the same shelter. He used to annoy his brother Sleepy to no end! He would dig at the bed while he was trying to sleep or simply step or lay on him when he felt like it. Poor Sleepy was a good sport even up until his death in March of 2004. But finally the brothers are together again and I have to smile a little imaging Peanut bounding toward his brother and Sleepy sighing a little to himself, “Oh Peanut, you’re here already!
WE LOVE you our little Peanut Butter Buns!
