Dog

Sometimes a creature comes along that you just know
was meant for you. They're special somehow.
That was Shin-Su. His intelligence scared us sometimes,
he had a way of looking right into your soul.
He didn't want to be a dog he wanted to be a person going
so far as to try and pick things up with his paws.
Dignified with silly outbursts such as dancing
around his cookies before eating them.
There was so much depth in his eyes.
The protection he gave us knew no bounds.
The way he would lean against your leg as two
old friends would lean against one another.
You couldn't treat him like a dog but like a person.
He had rituals games ploys. He taught me so much.
How to laugh at myself. How humans DON'T know everything.
That we only experience a tiny part of the world.
That to love means FOREVER. And that to love often means
doing things that break our hearts until we think we
will scream but we keep silent and strong and just do it,
because a peaceful death is better than a painful one
and we would do ANYTHING to prevent a painful one.
I know he was met at Heaven's Gate by Buster and
they went to the Rainbow Bridge to wait there.
They are both in my prayers and I cry for them at
night sometimes. I only pray that one day I will make
it to the Rainbow Bridge where we will all be
together again.
For Shin-Su my friend protector and teacher
who taught me the pain of choice
but the love of a true friend.
