Smokey was the kindest, most gentle and loving dog ever to share our lives. He loved his humans and also his cats, especially his best buddy Harold. His favorite food was anything he could con out of his humans, but no vegetables. He used his voice wisely. He never barked unless his home was at risk. He never used force unless it was necessary to protect his family, but he would not hesitate to do whatever he needed to protect us.
He was fortunate enough to be able to meet Santa several times. He had a problem with the Easter Bunny. He loved it when people noticed how handsome he was, and would give his best smile to anyone with a kind word and a gentle pat on the head. He was also a great fundraiser. While working for the Humane Society by standing in front of grocery stores with his girls, he charmed people right out of their money for the shelter.
We had to protect him at these times, though, because many people wanted to take him home. Fortunately for us, he had exactly the home he wanted already. The three of us and his cats will always be grateful that he decided to live with us.
