Sugar by Kim Marlborough / Mom and Dad

Sugar,
We will miss so many things about you:
Your expressive eyes,
The way you looked everyone in the face as we walked around the park,
your thunderous doorbell-ringing bark,
The gentle way you ate peanut butter, steak, sno-balls, and anything else from a fork, and apples off the core.
Watching you run after birds, squirrels, Mommy, and for the sheer joy of running.
The big wet marks your nose left on us, our clothes, and the windows.
The bop-bop-bop of your little puppy ear tips as you trotted along on our walks.
The carpet-tearing games of “Got your paw”
The big sighs you would heave as you stretched and settled in for a nap.
The expressive lick lick l-i-c-k that showed us how much you cared when we were hurting or down.
The way you stuck with Kim through every tragedy, celebration and event in her life and were always there to listen – we know you really understood.
The way you answered – or didn’t answer – to so many loving names like Wild Mountain Dog, Shugs, Sugie, Furry-butt, and Clarence.

There will never be a dog with such a light in her eyes, such a lovable personality, such perfectly scruffable fur, such a comfortable, reassuring presence, and such a pure expression of the simple, unbounding, unrestricted love God sent into the world through you.

We will always miss you, and we will always be thankful for the time we had.

We still love you,
Sugar
