Cat

Dear Gulliver,

 The house is so quiet.

The other cats are a bit lost.

We're all looking for our "Big Guy".

I miss you so much.

I miss your outgoing personality.

You were no shrinking violet.

No cat now jumps on my bed in the morning

demanding his pets and his morning cantaloupe.

No kitty comes in to report

on the state of things in his kingdom.

No kitty opens (loudly) the cupboard and closet doors

or insists on getting the attention

such a regal looking

cat deserves.

You were my big (18.5 lbs) beautiful boy

and I used to tell people

your sole job in life was to be pretty.

Now you have a new job - to take care

of Geebers Willy Claudia Dick and myself.

I always told you when we left

that you were in charge and needed to guard the house.

I need you to do that more than ever.

How I long to hold your again and stroke your long soft fur.

How I wish I could have done something

to save you but you were

so sick and were losing your dignity.

I promised you the night before that

I wouldn't let you suffer anymore

that it was time and you could give up.

I was privileged to be with you in your last moments.

Dick and I were both there

and I draw some comfort in knowing

that the last thing you felt was

our touch

and the last thing you heard was my voice telling

we loved you

and that it was time to go to sleep.

I miss you Big Guy and I always will.

Much love,

Mary
