" Cosmo "
1991 ---- Sept. 29 1998
I rescued Cosmo from the Animal Shelter in 1991.
He was an Australian Shepard/Rotweiler mix and
he was abused as a puppy. That left lasting psychological
problems throughout his whole life but it didn't stop Cosmo
from becoming the most incredible companion for the
next 6 1/2 years that I was lucky enough to have him in my life.
He was the sweetest smartest dog and
loved by everyone that met him.
Cosmo had surgery on August 8 1998 for cervical disc disease.
The operation was a success. Unbeknownst to the Dr.'s,
he had a neuro-muscular disease for several years
that went undetected. The stress of surgery and his
lowered immune system gave the disease the opportunity
to take over his body. He started losing muscle tissue
at an alarming rate looking like an animal that had
not been fed for weeks even though he was eating
full meals two times a day.
We had no idea his condition was terminal.
I was fortunate to see him 2 days before he passed on
Tuesday September 29 1998. I spent my last visit with
Cosmo in his cage cuddling scratching playing feeding
him his favorite dog bones holding his water bowl up
so he could drink and letting him kiss my face. It felt great!
If I had known that it would be the last time I would see him,
I would have never left him alone!
The love between a pet and a human is the purest and
most profound of loves making the loss
that much more devastating.
Cosmo you will always be my sweet boy,
I love you baby boy.
Bye sweet pea.
Love Greg
