Basset Hound
Even though you were 15 years old
to me you were still like a puppy.
Even yesterday you greeted me on my return from work
wagging your tail and "speaking" that language of bassets I love.
Your brother and sister bassets are upset and
wonder when you are coming home.
I haven't the heart to tell them
your body is buried on our land in Connecticut now.
You are with MacBeth your basset hound sibling
who died three years ago.
Charlie Becky Elliott and I will miss you forever.
Every time we camp in Connecticut
we will visit your grave and remember
what a wonderful dog you were.
