Laertes was a fighter.
Even after he was diagnosed with kidney disease
he survived another year
just so he could be with me.
He was my best friend for sixteen years.
hope he is chasing birds or watching
re-runs of Lassie today because
those were his favorite things to do.
He also enjoyed watching Saturday morning cartoons
and slow dancing with me.
He died the way he would want to die.
He woke me at 2 a.m. and we played tug of war.
He died in my arms later that day.
I will miss you old friend.
