Ginger by Peggy Hatfield / Peggy, Redick, Sherri and Dave

On the 12th of December 2003—we lost our beautiful Ginger. I am not sure exactly what happened, yet. One day, she seemed fine and the next day—I came home from work to find her desperately ill. She raised her head and seemed to look at me for a minute; then, her head went down and never came up again. I tried to pick her up and take her to the vet, but she was too heavy and by the time I found help—she was gone. I felt so helpless and desperately wish that I had been home sooner–maybe she could have been saved–or at least, kept from suffering alone for six hours.

I must admit that my heart is broken—Ginger was my friend and constant companion for a little over 10 years. She will be greatly missed by all of our family and especially by me. Ginger loved long walks, carrying rocks, eating apples and marshmallows and retrieving our family’s “lost” socks. I will miss her loving smile any time I return home and I cannot imagine never again seeing her lying upside-down, with her tail wagging as she waits for a tummy rub. There must be a spot in heaven for a dog as beautiful and loving as Ginger because I could not bear this loss if there was not.

Love--always and forever,
Ginger
