Killa by Michael / Your Family

Killi,

You were our first ferret. When Mike (your daddy) came home and announced he wanted a ferret my first reaction was “What the heck’s a ferret?”. Mom and Dad told him they would buy the cage if he could come up with the money for the ferret. Little did they know how determined he was. Within a couple of weeks we were
on our way to the pet store!

We all remember going to look at you little fuzzies (as we now know you are often called). Your litter-mates were all very cute, but there was something especially endearing about you. You were so tiny, but with such a strong personality and will (feisty is a good word for it). As soon as Mike picked you up he knew you were the one. He said “Her name is Killa.”, and we all knew it fit in a funny sort of way.

It was such an education, from buying the cage and various accouterments, to taking you home and setting you up in our house. The first time we saw you “tweek” (aka the weasle war dance) we thought you had some serious psychological problem! We soon learned, however, that this is just the ferret way of saying “Hey, look at how tough I am!” and “Let’s play!”. It’s a good thing we bought that “getting to know your ferret” book!

It’s amazing. You were our first ferret, and yet you out-lasted most of those who came after you. After all this time, we all knew that it would happen soon, after all, ferrets don’t usually last nine years! Unfortunately, nobody is ever really ready for these things. When we heard you crying so last night, we knew it was nearly time.

We thought you were gone a couple of times, and were so glad when your daddy got here to say goodbye. He held you close and we were very grateful to realize you were in a coma and no longer in any pain. We all got to say goodbye to you, and you were able to spend your last hours sleeping on your daddy’s chest, knowing how much you are loved.

We’re all very glad that it happened like that- as Mom said, it’s how we would all like to go- surrounded by those whom we love and we know love us.

We will all miss you terribly, but knowing you are at peace at the Rainbow Bridge will help us to feel better. You must be so happy to see your brother, Inkie, as well as your nephews (?) Balthasar and Sampson. Our sweet little Tina and Squeekie will watch over you, Tigger and Puffy (and everyone already mentioned, of course) will show you how to run and play again. Even Pokie and Tipsi, the bunnies, will now play with you! Missy, the kitty who needed to be an “only”, will probably also come by to say hi, even though she didn’t think much of our carpet monsters
while here on earth.

You just enjoy being able to run and play again, do whatever you want, eat all you want (Ferretone flows like water there, I’ll bet!), just be your little ferret self. Don’t worry about your daddy, or the rest of us, we will miss you terribly, but know you are happy and able to do the things you love again. Wait for us at the Rainbow Bridge, with all of your friends and relations, we will be there before you know it (as we all know, time goes by much faster when you’re having fun!) and
will cross the bridge into heaven
with all of you at our sides.
