Coco Ducommun by John and Shawna Ducommun / Daddy, Mommy, Jake and Hope

Our cat Coco came into our lives 4 years ago. From the beginning he has always been very special to us. We did not realize how special he was until our second son was stillborn at 39 weeks gestation. When I came home from the hospital, Coco never left my side. He started sleeping in my bed that night. (which he had never done before that).

Over the last few years, our bond has only gotten stronger. Whenever I was sick or one of my kids were sick, he would never leave our sides. He changed our friends minds about cats. Alot of them hated cats, but they loved Coco. Whenever someone would come over, he would crawl right into their laps and touch their faces with his huge paws. (he was a mitten kitten. He had an extra toe on EACH paw!)He was always rubbing his sweet little face on mine and aways followed me around.

A few months ago Coco started losing weight. He was not eating right and had a hard time just doing everyday cat things. On the morning of Aug. 12th, 2004 he went downhill fast. We decided that instead of watching him suffer, that it was time to let him go. I called our local animal shelter and asked for him to be put to sleep. They were so nice and understanding. They came out to my car and let me hold him while they gave him the shot. He curled up into my arms, touched my face one last time and then he was gone. It took only 40 seconds for him to leave this world and pass onto a place where there would be no more suffering. As I was holding him, I asked him to please say hi to baby John for me. Now he is up in heaven with my son.

I will miss you until the day I died Coco.
You were more than a cat,
you were my child.

Loving you always,
Coco Ducommun
