Chrissie {aka Christmas} by Yvonne / Yvonne

I wanted so to keep you here
yet in my heart I know
that Love’s not in the holding on,
but in the letting go”

To a true angel, Chrissie:

She was the sweetest, funniest, most beautiful, elegant, adorable smiling dog I ever met!!! I’ve known her for 11yrs and immediately fell in love with her. She was our dear vet’s girl, but I would have adopted her in a second…when you saw her you just felt it, she was a true angel! One special thing about her was that she could SMILE! She would tear her lips up in an “Elvis” way, that always made me smile too. And when she was bored or wasn’t allowed to do something, she would sigh and show you how mean you are 🙂

Oh there’s so much to say about this wonderful girl, most important that she was such a good girl, and I always told her that. Well, she was crazy for ANY food and was kept on several diets, but she never seemed to be less happy. She just was a sunshine, a light in my life too! When she wanted to eat (which was all the time, lol) she would go down cellar at the vet’s studio, grab a small dog food bag, and walk around proudly showing it off in her mouth. As if to say “hey would anybody pleeeease open it for me?!”, she was a real clown sometimes. Not even old age stopped her from being playful and funny.

These last weeks she changed so fast, I wouldn’t recognize her. She stopped eating, lost tremendous amount of weight and just laid around. I often went to pick her up for a walk in the past, and even babysat her whole days when I could, since my two dogs got along with her great. It wouldn’t depend on Chrissie, because she just loved everyone!
When I went in to say hi last Friday, she was getting fluids in her vein, but still wagged her tail and looked at me in her deeeeep way, putting her head close to mine. I told her everything would be o.k., that she’ll make it fine and just had to start eating again. I asked her to give me a smile, but she didn’t, she just looked at me and seeked for my touch. The vet himself knew already that there’d be no miracles, that she’s old and has renal failure, but we still wanted to have tried everything possible…
I went back this Monday, as I got the news he would release her that evening. I couldn’t believe it, it broke my heart to have to say goodbye to Chrissie, we were best friends! I stayed with her for a long time, petting her thin body, and talking to her. She had a hard time lifting her head up, but when she did she also wagged her tail and I kissed her beautiful face. I could see she wasn’t feeling good and that it was the right thing to do to let her go, but to actually deal with it is so hard. When the vet went upstairs, Chrissie wanted to follow him, but was so weak, I helped her step by step until we made it up, and she slowly walked away and laid down. I gave her one more kiss and said my goodbyes, and asked her to please let us know she’s o.k. in Heaven, and that the she’ll be a real angel and never really leave us…. I left and looked back as her eyes just gazed at mine, it was too much to bear… She knew it, she knew I’d never be able to visit again, she’s never looked at me that way.

Chris-Chris you’re a good girl, go eat as much treats as you want and don’t forget to watch down on your masters and me too!

I’ll always love you Chrissie and remember you forever!!! I know there are angels among us…
