For a very long time, Mikey was my best friend. When I bought him on March 25, 2003, I didn’t expect to buy a fish who I would grow to love dearly. The day I brought him home was one of the happiest days of my life. I remember being in the pet store, looking at the betas and choosing one. I was ready to bring the fish up to pay, when I saw the fish I would soon grow to love- Mikey. I put the fish I picked out down, and bought Mikey.
I was like a proud parent as I drove him home and placed him in his new home. Mikey and I soon became the best of friends. I would put him on my desk as I did my homework, and he would swim around, happily and watch me work. In the beginning we were friends…but then we grew into best friends. Mikey was always there for me when I needed someone to talk to. He was a wonderful listener…and he had his own way of communicating back to me.
Mikey was a unique fish. He loved his little plant and spent most of his time in it. We went through a lot together. Long drives to and from GCU…laughs, cries and weekends apart. I found a quote that says,” Fish die belly upward, and rise to the surface. It’s their way of falling.” But Mikey never fell…he stayed in the water the whole time and fought till his last breath. Mikey was a fighter.
Now Mikey is in a better place. He is in Fishy heaven, swimming in a huge ocean with no limits. I am sure that he will find a plant just like his here on earth.
