“Our Girls”
Both of you were born in our hearts
that summer day in June.
We’d driven ‘cross town to meet you
We knew we’d never be the same
kitten love was in bloom.
When we first peered into the kennel
feeling emotions stir,
there you both were;
two small bright-eyed kittens covered in fur.
You weren’t sisters by litter, but sisters all the same;
soon we had you home and each given a name.
Our shy girl with a big voice and tuxedo coat,
would be known as the one and only Tang.
The brindle baby so sweet
with a cute little squeak
would be our Nani girl.
For the perfect fit each name preceded
with an honorary “J”,
fitting in perfectly with our whole family’s “J” first names.
And so it was J’Tang and J’Nani joined our family tree;
rounding out our family and perfectly blending in.
We remember that first 4th of July when the fireworks began to pop
Your eyes grew wide, and your hearts raced as you both peered out the window.
As Christmas came you had a treat,
trees in the house to climb with ornaments so neat;
you both found your places even sitting upon the branches,
or underneath staring at the glowing lights and resting just like a package.
You settled in so well each found your favorite place
running up and down the stairs was often your daily race.
During the day you’d rest upon the top bunk
and bathe your fur and sleep,
or choose at times to spend your rest
in the chamber of the princess
You liked to play hide and seek, or at times be under feet,
lap time was a requisite as you’d purr and take your sleep.
J’Tang was high maintenance and yes spoiled a bit
She’d speak to you and come when called and sometimes throw a fit.
She slept curled, with a paw over her eyes
and was quick to get your attention,
sometimes craving just a bit more affection.
J’Nani was a Daddy’s girl
each night sharing a cuddle,
she’d lay herself upon his chest purring
and collapse in a puddle.
She’d splay herself out on her back and chill,
tail straight, paws in the air
a cat with flair like no other.
Our time together on earth was short
but we were blessed to have you in our lives.
We never would have imagined
only three days would separate you
when each of you died.
J’Tang and J’Nani together forever,
two new stars were born that week
to shine in the heavens.
Our comfort is that you’ll be together,
two sisters at the Bridge;
waiting for the day to come
when family crests Rainbow’s ridge.
We loved you two and you knew it and we felt it too.
The two who arrived and departed together
left your paw prints on our hearts forever.
Sleep well our little girls
we know you need your rest,
we feel you in our hearts now
and know it was for the best.
Waking in the meadow just beyond the Rainbow Bridge
Hold us in your hearts for now and take care of one another until we meet again.
