However large or small, no matter what type they may be, there is a connection to make;
There is a love to be understood and
hopefully returned;
Because never in life has one’s life
been so truly touched;
And never in death has the meaning
of life been so understood.
Take the time to look into the eyes
of an animal and you will see;
You can truly come to understand
your own value;
You can see more then
just happiness and sadness;
You can see an understanding,
love and devotion that comes without words;
You can see and be given
a greater opportunity to see yourself
as they see you;
You can learn to feel as they
do in love and pain;
There is no truer connection ever made in life,
then that which is made
between animal and human.
Animals are creatures that can
offer a devotion and understanding,
that no human can offer to another.
The ability given our animal friends, comes without any reservations,
they take us as we are and for
what we have to offer them.
They do not speak, yet they can tell you a whole story – if you watch and listen,
Because never has there been a more alert creature to their surroundings,
then those of the animal kingdom.
They have been given a way to make a difference in the lives of so many others,
through putting their head on your knee, the wag of a tail, a sloppy kiss, a paw in hand,
even just a small tilt of their head, the perk of an ear –
these gestures can all say more then any word could say.
No, they cannot speak in human language but if humans would take the time to listen
they could learn and hear more about what all our creatures on earth have to say;
and maybe if we stopped to listen to our furry friends and look into their eyes,
our world would be a better place for all creatures – human and animal alike.
This was written in dedication to my best friend whom recently passed away and has left behind a lifetime of memories which will never be forgotten nor replaced. To Sheba who taught those she came to know so much about love and friendship, may she now be celebrating a new life which contains no suffering and may everyone who came to known Sheba be more alert to what life has to hold. Sheba was truly more then my teacher, friend and daily companion; she was everything good that life truly had to offer.
