Moet by Jan and Dave Barton / Mom and Dad

I sat on the floor with your Mother in my lap, she was having contractions and didn’t want to be alone. She had four beautiful kittens and you were the last, silver grey with powder blue eyes and twice the size of your brothers and sisters. We put you all in our bedroom so that we could play and spend time with you. Very quickly you became my favorite as you used to teeter on tiny legs up to my chest then continue your journey with determination to make it to my shoulder and nestle into my neck and go to sleep.

When you were grown up you often tried to do the same thing but you didn’t fit anymore and my pillow would have to do. I fell in love with you then and usurped your real mothers position as “Mom” and will love you always. We had 17 and a half wonderful years together. Your favorite place was in my lap and second favorite place was at the top of the yard in the sun under a camelia bush. I can still see you there basking away next to your birth Mom. As the two of you were special friends I know she misses you too.

You were sick only once before and I stayed up all night with you in my lap on the floor. It hurt so much to see you in pain. But nothing like the hurt to know that your time on earth was close to being complete. We did everything we could to help you at the end but you lost so much weight and were so stressed and miserable I couldn’t watch you barely hang on to life anymore. Your eyes told me it was time for me to let go. You went to sleep with your Mom and Dad beside you and loving you. You aren’t in
my lap anymore but I know you are in the palm of Gods hand and my heart always. Sleep well my beautiful boy and we will meet again.
