Dakota Manley by Shawn, Dylan, Brandi, and Kelly Manley / Your Family

Dakota was a really great dog. We’ve had her for eight years. Ever since I was five years old.

We’ve had her since she was a little puppy.
She was so cute when she was little.
One day though, she ran outside while chasing a cat, and a car hit her. She hurt her legs, and ever after that, when she got older, she kept having seizures.

Since the vet said that if we messed with her, she might bite, my dad had her as an outside dog.

She got older, but she wasn’t that old. A few weeks ago we started taking her on walks, and she really enjoyed it.

I don’t think that eight
years was long enough.
She was only eight.

The eight years we had her, she was the best dog ever. She was so pretty, and she was so much fun. Especially to play fetch with. It was fun running with her in the yard, of course, she always won when we raced.

She had a friend, a Golden Retriever mix named Sadie. They didn’t get along that well, but Sadie misses Dakota. I told Sadie about what happened, she hopes Dakota
is in a better place.

On June 26, 2007, late during the night, she died during a seizure. I don’t know why this one killed her, but it did.

I really miss her, but I’m sure
she’s in a better place now..

Dear Dakota,

I miss you.. Are you alright? I’m sure that you are. I hope that you’re having fun.. Do you miss us all? I know you and Sadie didn’t get along too well. But I think
Sadie really misses you, too.

She says that she hopes you’re in a better place. My dad, my brother, my mom.. everyone misses you.

Why did you have to go? You weren’t that old.. I know you weren’t suffering. I know because you always had water and food. Right?

Why did that seizure kill you?
What was so bad about that one?

I just wish that you hadn’t left so soon. You still had a while left to live. I guess it’s fate? At least we still have Sadie, right? I’m sort of glad we took her before you died, because she could have, too.

By messing with you or something. We still have you though. We have you in our hearts. I love you Dakota.

If dogs can actually read, I hope you see this Dakota. Because we all love you so much.

Rest In Peace, Dakota.

Love,
Dakota Manley
