In March of 2008, I received an email from Jayne about a little old Shih Tzu in need … but he was in Kansas City. Thanks to her and to Petra, who met the transport in St. Louis and brought him north, Cosmo became the first of the three old train wrecks we rescued that Spring, affectionately nicknamed “The Medicaid Mafia.”
We adopted all three as our engagement gift to each other. Phoenix crossed the Rainbow Bridge the day after he was adopted; Franklin was with us another ten months. Cosmo, the first rescued, was also the last to leave. We called him “Timex” since he just kept on ticking.
Cosmo loved supper and sunshine most of all.
In honor of our “Mo Mo” … “Bless the Broken Road” by Rascal Flats
I set out on a narrow way many years ago
Hoping I would find true love along the broken road
But I got lost a time or two
Wiped my brow and kept pushing through
I couldn’t see how every sign pointed straight to you
Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
I think about the years I spent just passing through
I’d like to have the time I lost and give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
You’ve been there you understand
It’s all part of a grander plan that is coming true
Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road that led me straight to you
Enjoy the sunshine, beloved Mo Mo
