She came into our lives the summer of 2009. We were living on a ranch in the northern New Mexico mountains and she was the dog of the ranch owner. They really did not want her and you could tell that she’d decided that we were her “new” family. She was at our trailer every day and you always knew when she had arrived. There was a jolt of the trailer and the sound of her jumping up the steps to the door and then the tell tale scratch of her little paw – saying “I’m here”! Our hearts melted each time she appeared. Eventually she became ours. Forrest loved that little girl so much, she stole his heart and mine.
She went to work daily with him that fall and winter, and would spend her days laying around in the sun, when she wasn’t chasing the BIG dogs and playing. She snored at night and it was a little game we played saying her name and she would look up at us as if to say, “What?, I am sleeping!”. She loved to roll around in the dirt like a little piggy and when she ate sounded like one to. We would get a kick out of watching her enjoy her food, she would have it everywhere. She was stubborn like bulldogs are. One time we emptied the water bowl at night since one of the four had been peeing on the floor, she went to that bowl and sat in front of it for 5 minutes staring at the bowl till we finally broke down and filled it with fresh water. She was so cute when she would try to get the big dogs to play with her, running as fast as she could (and that was pretty fast) jumping at them. That little girl could really bounce off the ground. She loved everyone she met & everyone that met her fell in love with her.
She was so sweet with all the kids, other animals and gave us so much love. She was a joy to have in our lives. She was never demanding and always happy. She snorted so cute and even though she could not wag her tail (bull dog short) you could always tell when she was extra excited as she got real playful and hopped around. She was far to young to leave and she will live in our hearts forever as the little bulldog that came into our lives unexpectedly and brightened our days with her unconditional love. We will all miss her dearly.
Pickles I know you are in a place were you are safe and not hurting anymore. Always remember that we love you, you will always be remembered!
