In loving Memory Dear Mickey
Mickey came to White Angels Hope as a puppy, he had been found wondering along the side of a rural road in the state of Mississippi, by a rescuer who just happened to be driving a leg of a volunteer transport for one of White Angels Hopes other dogs. Not only was Mickey smart, well mannered, good natured but he was also one of the cutest and most handsome lethal whites Australian Shepherds I had ever seen. Mickey was a dream dog and when it came time to create our rescues logo Mickey was chosen to be the star.
He was adopted to a wonderful couple who cared for him and loved him. He was their fur child. Last week I got the email that all rescues dread. On July 8th 2010 Mickey was on vacation with his mom and dad and in her words “I only turned my back for a second” Mickey got out of a fenced in yard and ran down 1/4 of a mile to the road where he was hit by a truck and his back was broken. Our dear Mickey had to be put to sleep, a truly great loss not only for his mom and dad, but for everyone at White Angels Hope and everyone whose life he touched along his way.
Where do you start to speak of the memory of one so loved and so adored. Surely his picture on White Angels Hope logo is wonderful because now he is our real angel looking out over all our other rescue dogs to stay safe and not to fall into harms way.
Mickey stands for everything White Angels Hope is and was created for. I want Mickey to stand for what our adopters always have to keep in mind with our dogs. Its not just me speaking blindly when I say, unlike seeing and hearing dogs no matter how much our dear adopter called him frantically Mickey could not hear his mothers call, otherwise there may have been a chance to call him back into her loving arms. Mickey’s life was lost because of one second and that’s all it takes, We are not here to condemn something that could happen to any of us, but as a rescuer who loves these animals with all my heart and soul I have to use this as an example to help others see how in one instance we can loose these dogs who become so precious to us.
Mickey will be remembered for everything he represented and every bit of love and wonderfulness he embodied. His memory will stand as the guardian angel of White Angels Hope and the beauty of his soul will always be in our hearts.
Mickey may you have peace and love and run through the clouds hearing the music and happy sounds of the world you missed in the life you left.
We love you Mickey, but its not goodbye, you will always be here among us, all the people who loved you so.
