Shannon,
It’s been just a week today that you took your last flight. You came into our lives 12 yrs ago. You loved the dogs, especially Missy. When she died in 2009 you started picking your feathers, I wasn’t sure why, but after having you checked by the vet, and nothing was wrong, I finally realized that you were missing your friend, Missy. Eventually you staring getting better, but you never stopped altogether. Even though there were several other dogs in the house, you never bonded with them. I always felt that you thought you were a dog and not a bird. Flying around and landing on the floor to walk around with the dogs. Good thing the dogs liked you as well.
How I miss hearing you chirp when I walk through the door after work. I no longer hear the ringing of your favorite toy. When the dogs are barking I no longer hear you making noise along with them. The Dining Room has an empty spot where your cage used to be. I will miss you having breakfast with me on the weekends, how you loved your cheerios. I will miss you getting on my laptop keyboard while I was trying to work on the computer. So many things that I will miss about you.
You managed to fly out of the house three times, twice in the dead of Winter, and once during October, but it was a warm weekend. You were out overnight and how I worried. You took a tour of the neighborhood, followed me when I rode my horse. But we got you back safe and sound all three times.
Fly Free my beautiful Shannon. Till we meet again.
Love,
