You were rescued when you were a baby,
Near death in that filthy trash dumpster.
I knew God sent you to be my canine lady,
On that warm day of 1995 in December.

What a beautiful sweet black Labrador,
Your eyes sparkled bright through your pain.
It was my destiny for you forever more,
That with me you would always remain.

You fought against death with all your might,
As I cared for you every night and day.
I was so proud of you for winning your fight,
As I look back to that 1996 month of May.

The years we shared compare to none other,
You were my life…my very best friend.
I was your guardian and loving mother,
We held that special bond until the end.

I hadn’t planned that you’d leave so suddenly,
I held you close while we said our good byes.
You laid in my arms so quiet…so helplessly,
I will never forget those beautiful eyes.

I know girl that you are in a better place,
Please go and tell the angels I said hi hon.
I will one day come join you in God’s grace,
When my work here on earth is done.

Ebony, I will love you forever, with meaning beyond human words.

Now go on girl, put on that happy face and run free through the fields of heaven until I see you again………
