BEST FRIENDS
I’ll always enjoy going back in time
To the night you came to stay.
I’ll remember all the fun filled hours
That brought us to this day .
We were like two kids together ,
Sometimes playing till we dropped .
We’d lay on the floor exhausted ,
But the enjoyment never stopped .
You showed me what a friend should be .
You gave unconditional love .
You were there when I needed comfort
And left judging to God above.
Your loyalty was never in doubt .
You’re as true as true can be .
I knew if the moment ever occurred
You’d lay down your life for me….
The time of parting is upon us now.
I think you know it’s true.
Your zest for life is long since gone .
There’s nothing we can do.
I know we’ll meet again somewhere .
You’ll be forever in my heart.
Destiny brought us together once .
We’re not meant to be apart .
I picture myself tending a fire one night
And you emerge from the evening fog .
We snuggle and watch the flickering flames ;
Best friends ; just me and my dog.
