LuckyLucy Luke Blossom

Animals have been a part of my life since the day I was born.

I don’t think I could live without a pet in my life. I know people who don’t know

how to experience the joy of animals and I only wish they learn to love as I do.

This story is dedicated to three very special cats Lucky

Lucy Luke and Blossom.

Lucky Lucy or Gray Cat as we called her was born to a stray cat my

mother had found the year before. She was born on Mother’s Day of 1978,

and I was born a month later. She was a part of my family since the day

I was born and because of the closeness in age I always referred to

her as my sister. Lucy was always there when I needed a shoulder to cry

on. She never told me I was being silly or stupid.

She always listened and never interrupted. She was my very best friend.

As we grew older she grew weaker and had a harder time doing simple

things. My mother kept saying that she was getting old and in pain but

I refused to accept it. One night in October of 1996 my sister’s cat

had a beautiful litter of black babies. Luke was the blackest of all. I

immediately knew he was special. I asked my mom to let me keep him. That

night I went to school and two days later my mom called to say she had

put Lucy to sleep. Even though I knew she was in pain I still couldn’t

accept it. She was a part of my whole life and now there was a hole left.

I cried for two days. For months after I could not think of my cat

without feeling empty inside. I named Luke after her and let him fill

that hole. Luke was my baby. He was in need of constant attention which

he always got. When we moved last year he stayed at a friend’s house,

and ran away. We asked every neighbor within miles put signs

everywhere and searched for him for months but never found him.

That summer we planned on moving into a house which was sold so we

had to move out the stuff we had in storage there. It was a very large

farm and there was a family of cats living in the barn. One of the cats

was a black cat with a tiny little tail and six toes on each paw. She

cried lonesomely and came to us when we visited. One day the owner

mentioned her and said he had almost shot her but decided not to. She

was also pregnant and very close to giving birth.

That night I begged my mom to take her home. We took her with us and

named her Blossom- blossoming with the life inside her. She had her

litter but all the kittens were stillborn. Blossom attached very

quickly to everyone around her. She would rub against you follow you

around everywhere and not leave you for a minute. She was the most

loving animal we ever had and when she had kittens she was an even

better mother. One day Blossom never came home. We searched for her but

never found her. It was so unlike her to not come home.

Her babies missed her so very much. After she left they stopped playing

and mopped around the house.

It seems sometimes that every animal that I have attached myself to,

every one that was the most special to me had been taken so suddenly

from me. I still have reminders pictures of my babies Baby Blossom-

the exact image of his mother and the memories I hold in my heart. Even

though I know that they are gone I cherish the thought that I had the

chance to grow with them close to them. They filled my life with so

much joy that people cannot. They will forever live on inside.

Even though an animal is gone the time they spend and the memory they

place inside you is so important. Know that they are here for not only

themselves but others as well.

We love you and miss you!
