{ Sir William / SW }

Siamese Cat
18 years ago I became 3rd owner to a Siamese cat.
He was named Sir William- quickly shorten to SW and in time
nicknamed Station Wagon. He was the crustiest meanest
cat in the neighborhood but was always loving and tender at home.
In his prime he became a community cat- shared homes between here
and our retired neighbors the Cunninghams.
He’d hang out there during the day while I was at work and
they and their cat Tammy loved his company.
Often times when they couldn’t catch him to walk or drive him home
I’d get the phone message “He’ll be spending the night with us.”
Even after their Tammy died thank Heavens SW still visited and
stayed with them regularly.
He helped to mend their hurting hearts.
In recent years as he became disoriented we needed to keep
SW inside for safety.
Despite that fact he adjusted well and appreciated new companionship
in Budgie and Bromley a persian-birman brother and sister.
Bromley would often help settle him down in bed,
grooming him and curling up next to him.
Last Wednesday night something changed.
He looked different stopped eating only drank water.
I knew immediately that he was getting ready to die.
I’d prepared often for this which helped ease the following days.
He never was in pain so I helped him to transition.
Friday morning I got up and he looked like he was ready to go.
I spent Friday and Saturday with him as much as possible,
his being curled up in my arms in bed- his favorite place!
We talked about our special love and time together and
I thanked him often for his being my teacher and unconditional friend.
Sunday morning at 2 he passed away in my arms.
I am so grateful to share this last journey with him.
Of course I miss him terribly as do the Budge and Brom.
He was 22. I guess I was kinda hoping he’d hit 30
the rate he was going!
