Shitzu
Gizmo was a very special little Shitzu.
He brought joy to everyone who came in contact with him.
If he were a person he would always be smiling and
never have a negative thing to say about anyone.
His journey started happening on October 23rd 2000.
Gizmo was becoming tired.
I took him to my vet at the time who was a friend
to see why he was not feeling well.
He said there was nothing wrong that he could see
so we went home.
The next day in the afternoon I was out shopping
when I felt something deep in my heart and
I proceeded to drive home as quickly as possible.
I tookGizmo outside to go potty
when he fell on his back and rolled into the road.
I got hysterical and put him in the car and drove to the emergency hospital.
They did a lot of tests and found that he had 1 blood cell left
in his little beautiful soft body.
I signed the paper for Gizmo to have a blood transfusion.
They told me he might not make it and
I waited through the night for that ill fated phone call.
That never happened thank God.
I drove to the hospital to pick him up. He was a new boy full of new blood
donated by the Greyhound dog blood bank.
Greyhounds are very strong dogs and
their blood is used to save other animals.
Gizmo was alive and that was the beginning of a difficult journey.
We now go to another animal clinic where they do numerous tests and
finally find out that Gizmo has a very rare autoimmune disease.
His body makes large amount of estrogen
which would eat up his bone marrow and
deplete his blood supply.
We were told he would need a blood transfusion
every couple of weeks and it would be extremely costly.
But we loved him like a child and
money was not going to stand in our way.
Throughout the last 6 months of Gizmo’s life
he had 6 blood transfusion
My husband gave him shots that were experimental
and lots of medications to keep him alive.
He never once cried made an ouch sound or a sad face.
