I am here to write a story about our wonderful Yorkie named Yappy Happy Hannah. This little girl started her life as a breeding dog with a very good breeder. We bought 2 puppies from her and always loved Hannah when we would go to get them groomed. Hannah would always sit on our lap and lick us. After 4 litters of puppies Hannah needed a c section and about a week later choked on a chicken bone opening the incision and causing a lot of damage. The breeder rushed her to the vet where they operated through the night to save her life. Fate stepped in and spared Hannah as I am sure that God knew she had so much work to do yet here on earth. She was only 5 years old and his plan for her was to help people and that she did.
My son, Andy bought Hannah when she was 5 years old and she lived with him and his wife for about five years until they divorced. Andy moved home with us and brought sweet Hannah with him. We had 3 Yorkies and one Maltese at the time and she fit right into the family. She was so happy here and we had her puppy Genie with whom she bonded right away. Her days were happy and full of love. Then Abby the 11 year old Yorkie died. Hannah remembered her job as a Mommy and stayed by Abby’s side during her illness. When Abby would have a little trouble breathing, Hannah was right there licking her face. When Abby died Hannah really seemed to miss her. We took in some rescue dogs, one Yorkie and a few Maltese. Each time Hannah was there to welcome the newcomer. She was a dog that never nipped or bit or was mean to anyone or anything. When Andy remarried I asked him if Hannah could stay here with us and he allowed us to keep her here. He came often to visit and she was quite happy. She was a gentle little girl and she was always happy. She played with the grandchildren and she sat on the laps of the elderly and gave them peace and love in their lonely days at a nursing home. She visited the kids at the Elementary School where I work and was quite a popular little girl there. Hannah was a true lady and very petite at only 6 pounds. She loved to play and sneak out of the fence where the slats were too far apart. She would go through our fence and to the neighbors to play with Winnie the Pug. One day she got caught in their fence and we had to take out a slat to free her. The whole time she was wagging her tail as we were so concerned for her. An extra slat stopped her escape route. She would love to eat her scrambled eggs and steal chocolate whenever she could. She graced this house with kindness and love for over 6 years.
She started to be picky with her eating and lost some weight. Blood tests showed she was beginning kidney failure. Just a few days later we had her get some fluid to feel better and she came home for her last day and night with the family. I took her all through the house and the yard to see her favorite places. Her Dad came and spent the night and slept in their old room for her last night on earth. In the morning I held her for a long time and let her say good bye to her 9 brothers and sisters for the last time. She was resting in her little bed and I said “Hannah, smile for Grandma one last time.” It was as if she heard me and looked right at the camera. Even in the end she was Hannah the wonderful Yorkie. Our visit to Dr. Lewis was brief and he allowed Hannah to go to the Rainbow Bridge very gently true to her nature. Her Dad held her and I petted her to say our good byes. I think that we prepared Hannah for her final journey and gave her a day full of all her favorite things. I think in her way she tried to prepare us by being so calm and content right to the end. I did not think my eyes could cry this many tears but they did. I look at her picture each day and tell her I love her.
Even though we could not make this journey together we are still a part of each others lives as she lives in our heart now and forever. I got so many e mails from rescue people and one said rest in eternal sunshine and I felt this very calming to me. Hannah lifed our spirits when we were down, she made us laugh at her funny actions, she licked away many a tear over the years and most of all she loved each one of us with the love that only a pet can have for their people. We in turn loved her back and made her life here on earth a wonderful experience. How can we say good bye to one that was our family and friend? I have not got the words to express the thank yous that we owe to Hannah but somehow I think she knew. May God bless and keep you until we meet again and the next time we meet it will be forever and we won’t have to leave each other. At the age of 16 1/2 Hannah left us to be young and free of sickness and pain. We are all better people for knowing Hannah, sweet Hannah.
Fly with the angels sweet Hannah,
