Zena by Suzanne

Zena belonged to the couple across the street. They were non to stable. They fought all the time. Zena was a full blooded rottie who was kept on a short chain because if she got loose she would run away. Who could blame her though. I would walk over to her house and talk to the lady who lived there and Zena would growl at me. She was so thin you could read a book through her. I started to take her doggie cookies, and so our bond began to grow. Soon the growling stopped and that little nub of a tail would wag. I have a rottie of my own named Cheyanne that we call Big Fat Chey. Chey weights in at 125 Zena was 50 lbs soaking wet. Well the couple started to really fight and soon the lady ran the man off. The divorce court said the lady had 2 months to get out of the house.

The lady having no income my husband began to buy all of Zena’s food. By now I was really in love with Zena but she belonged to the man and I knew he would never give her to me. Then the day cme when the lady had to get out of the house. She asked me to feed Zena untill the man came home. I jumped at the chance to show Zena what true love was. I was determined to put some meat on her bones.
So began our daily thing.

I would feed Zena 2 times a day. While she ate I would talk to her. I always told her how much I loved her. One day for some reason I told her about Rainbow Bridge. I told her all about how wonderful it was and that someday she would get to go there. I guess she thought “why wait for someday”” because the next day she went. She died alone tied to a chain. But she left this world knowing that at least one person loved her. She was only 5 years old.
